Party Rye Pizza

If there was a celebration, there would be party rye pizzas. My mom would whip these up for all holidays and anytime there was a need for a quick appetizer. Not a stranger to a Midwest tablescape, these cheesy, crispy pizzas not only satisfied an unspoken appetizer requirement, but they bring about the upmost level of nostalgia.

And if you’ve never tried these, let’s fix that today. This party rye pizza comes together quickly and in the words of Annelle, freezes beautifully.

Party Rye Pizza

Ingredients:

1 package party rye / cocktail rye
1 pound ground beef
1 pound pork
1 tablespoon Worchester sauce
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 pound of processed cheese, we use Velveeta
Provolone

Instructions:

  1. Prepare 2 baking trays with tinfoil and lay out the party rye. Set aside.
  2. Brown beef and pork. Once cooked through, drain off excess fat and return to pan.
  3. Add in Worchester sauce, Velveeta and garlic powder.
  4. Once all combined and cheese has melted, add a tablespoon of meat mixture to each party rye on the prepared trays.
  5. If freezing for later, this is the point where you would let those party rye pizzas cool completely and freeze. If not, and you’re ready to eat, let’s preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit.
  6. While waiting for the oven to preheat, add a piece of provolone cheese to each party rye pizza. Mozzarella is also delicious (any cheese works for this)
  7. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes to get crispy.
